What is hodgkins lymphoma?

my friend has hodgkins lymphoma and i am worried. what does this mean? will she live? what is the condition caused by and what does it cause? please give me detailed answers and/or testimonies!

What is hodgkins lymphoma?
Hodgkin's is cancer of the lymph nodes. I had it 23 years ago when I was 15. I was treated with radiation and am considered cured. In my opinion if you HAVE to have cancer--pick Hodgkin's b/c it's the most "curable" (for lack of a better word). If you are in remission for 7 years you are considered cured.

If your friend is a teenage girl, and she gets radiation treatments, she will need to have mammograms starting at 30 instead of 40 b/c the radiation exposure to her breasts will put in a high risk group for developing breast cancer. However, the risk is certainly small enough for her to go ahead with the treatments.

I was just diagnosed with breast cancer 10 days ago. I'll have to have chemo b/c my body has had all the radiation it can withstand.

Your friend will be fine. It will be hard healing process, make no mistake about that, but in the end she'll be just fine!

Oh--and just so you know--there is no known cause for Hodgkin's. Some people just get it. Also, other than the breast cancer, having Hodgkin's will not increase her risks of having another type of cancer in the future.

Good luck!

Reply:Hodgkin's Lymphoma is a malignant growth of cells in the lymph system. Hodgkin's Disease is the better known form of lymphoma. The other lymphomas are grouped into what is called the Non-Hodgkin's Lymphomas.

Cure rates are very high. The younger the patient and the earlier the diagnosis and therefore treatment, the higher the rate of remission.

Reply:I'm not sure how hodgkin's and non-hodgkins lymphomas differ. I know that they are common types of cancer and that there are good treatments out there.

Reply:I don't know much about cancer but that is what my brother had. He was diagnosed when he was 28 and died when he was 31. It was an awful three years of ups and downs. But we were told that he had a good chance of being fine. That is why I am having a hard time dealing still after three years.
