Stage 4 Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma and an intestine that burst.?

I am wondering if anyone can help me with a prognosis. My FIL has stage 4 Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma and last Sunday his small intestine burst, prompting surgery. They were able to help him, but the doctor said that the rest of the intestine didn't look good because of the disease. His vitals are fair, but since he has this disease, does anyone know what his prognosis would be? The reason his intestine did what it did, he had chemo the last Thurs, then he got a booster shot for white blood cells and he was also on a high dosage of steriods. He didn't feel any pain until it became unbearable. It washed everything until the intestine burst. Just need some people who can help me and no stupid answers. Thank you.

There are many different types of NHL with differing prognosis but in any case you probably already know that stage 4 disease of any type of NHL is very serious. He may still develop an infection related to the burst intestine. That is his most serious immediate worry. You did not state his age. Prognosis in older patients (above 65-70) is not nearly as good as in younger patients and also radical treatments like bone marrow transplant or stem cell transplant are not usually done past age 70. Your FIL may recover initially but he still has a long hard road in front of him. As to when he might pass away, only God knows. good luck to him and your family
