Hi my uncle is suffering from non hodgkins lymphoma in india is there any charity treatment for this in usa?

hi all

my question is very important please help us.the story i m about to tell is very sad. Its about my uncle (my mother's brother in law) who are currently linivg in Punjab;India.

He is about 43 yrs old and in 2005 we discovered that he has non-hodgkins lymphoma. Its a kind of cancer that attacks body's lymphatic system. He took chemotherapy for this and then he was recovering well. But after sometime he started comaplaining about pain in his legs but doctor said do not worry he will be fine, but my aunt took him for MRI and then they discovered the lymphoma has spread in his backbone so chemo was started for that. Now it has spread in his meninges. But again doctor couldn't find it my aunt took him for test on her own. so far they have spent a lot of money for his treatment but nothing seems to work.

I want to know if there are any charity hospitals here in USA who help such patients. Please reply i will be greatful.

thanks

There's not really much financial support for health care for foreign nationals. However, from your description, your uncle may qualify for a clinical trial, and at least partial financial support. You might contact various research hospitals and see if they have a trial that you might qualify for. For example: see http://www.mdanderson.org/patients_publi...

this is a link to over 100 charities that assist with non hodgkins lymphoma...good luck and best wishes to your uncle
Reply:Englewood Hospital, Englewood, NJ and Holy Name Hospital, Teaneck, NJ both have excellent charity care assistance programs. They care for the patient before caring about the payments. There are also several Punjabi communties in the area like Teaneck and Jersey City. This is very close to New York City too. You could call Englewood Hospital at 1-201-894-3000 and ask to be connected to charity care. I think you would have to get your uncle here on his own first unless you can find an organization to help him get here if you can not afford it.
Reply:I agree with the person who said a clinical trial might be a good bet, although these trials are often restricted to patients who have had no prior treatment. It is very difficult for a foreign patient to get non-emergent medical care here. Most hospitals with a free clinic require the legal alien to be eligible for a social security number, which means they have a certain VISA allowing them to work (even if they are not working).
