What can my husband (who has Lymphoma) do to lift up his white blood cell count?

You see, my husband just had the last chemo treatment for Non-Hodgkins' Lymphoma and he didn't take the Neulasta shot for white blood cells. Then he got sick with double pneumonia and was in the hospital.

What can my husband (who has Lymphoma) do to lift up his white blood cell count?
The Neulasta shots are probably about the best thing.....I personally hated them.....I got terrible "breast bone" pain, both on the front and back of my body and was in horrible pain for 24-48 hours...hated even clothing brushing against my body....Neupogen was just as bad....I had no choice but to have massive doses of that, when I went thru my stem cell transplant. I now refuse to do anymore injections unless it's absolutely needed. If it takes me a few weeks longer to get my counts up, so be it.....but that is my personal choice.

I wish your husband the best, and a speedy recovery....
Reply:The obvious answer is to take the Neulasta shot or something similar like Leukine. There is no food or supplement that will quickly boost WBC like a Neulasta injection can. Talk to your husband's oncologist to discuss his options.

Reply:To lift up the WBC, do these exercises, and you will feel generally much much better. Both of you can do it, and compare notes.

Build up your timing gradually. If you feel tired or dizzy, stop and resume after one minute.

Anulom Vilom –

Close your right nostril with thumb and deep breath-in through left nostril

then – close left nostril with two fingers and breath-out through right nostril

then -keeping the left nostril closed deep breath-in through right nostril

then - close your right nostril with thumb and breath-out through left nostril.

This is one cycle of anulom vilom.

Repeat this cycle for 20 to 30 minutes twice a day(maximum 60 minutes in one day).

You can do this before breakfast/lunch/dinner or before bedtime or in bed.Remember to take deep long breaths into the lungs. You can do this while sitting on floor or chair or lying in bed.

Kapalbhati -(Do it before eating) Push air forcefully out through the nose about once per second. Stomach will itself go in(contract in). The breathing in(through the nose) will happen automatically. Establish a rhythm and do for 20 to 30 minutes twice a day.(Max 60 min/day) Not for pregnant women. Seriously ill people do it gently.
Reply:Growth hormones like neulasta or neupogin or a couple others is what will help this. They stimulate the bone marrow and help produce white blood cells
Reply:check out this research group they have a message board you can use http://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/
