Just wondering if anyone has participated in the leukemia%26amp;lymphoma society's marathons and how much money they needed to raise in order to participate in the event - Did anyone raise more than what they needed!!??!! That'd be exciting!
How much $ does the leukemia%26amp;lymphoma society normally make marathon participants raise?
Which one are you talking about. In 2006, the Nike Women's Marathon raised $16 million. There are several every year all around the country.

What are the symptoms of Lymphoma? Serious answers only please?
I had not been feeling well for several weeks when about 6 weeks ago I came down w/ a temp of 104. Nothing felt particularly bad.I went to the Dr %26amp; ran numerous blood test along with a CT scan of my Abd. The Ct showed enlarged lymph nodes through out my abd.
My Dr felt repeating the scan in a few weeks is good idea. However, since then I have gotten severe lower back pain...had an MRI on my lower spine and it showed two herniated disc. Had injections for those w/o any success in helping with the pain.
I am exhausted all of the time %26amp; have 3 small kids to care for and am barley making it some days. I can't even begin to express how freakin' tired I am.
I have started having these night sweats that are hard to describe as well I just wake up clammy %26amp; even drenched. My Dr mentioned Lymphoma as a possible DX %26amp; I scared. yet I feel like he is dragging his feet a bit in figuring this out. So I wanted to hear experiences from others so that I can either push my dr or be patient %26amp; wait.TIA
What are the symptoms of Lymphoma? Serious answers only please?
I know some what of what you are going through. It took the doctors 4 months (and alot of test) to finally diagnose me with SLE Lupus. Along with it, I have got alot of attached illnesses. While going through all these test though, lymphoma was one they tested me for. Lymphoma means just that, its in your lympnodes. Have they talked about testing you for fibromyalgia? Its a semi painless test and since your having back pain, it could be more on the mark that lymphoma. Also, have you had your iron level tested? Low iron will cause you to be VERY tired at times.
My lympnodes swell alot, especially in my neck. I also notice that stress causes it to be known as well. It sounds like to me, you need to go visit a new doctor and get some one else's opinion about it. Try not to panic and dwell on it. Everything will turn out!

Reply:Hi, I'm not sure about the Lymphoma!!! That's a form of Blood Cancer as far as I'm aware!! If you have 3 herniated discs that would account for the pain in the lower spine. I have 3 lumbar discs fused with Pedicle Screws, Plates, Rods, Bone Graphs, and Cages. I am under pain Management as there is nothing else that can be done surgically for me. The night sweats I get from the amount of pain I live in and the pain also causes extreme exhaustion just dealing with the emotional aspects of intense pain and also the depression that accompanies it. It may be a good idea to get a second opinion and also talk with an Orthopaedic surgeon or Doctor concerning the herniated discs...... All the nerves that your body uses to communicate with itself comes out of your spine through the discs and that may account for more than you may imagine, It sure does me!!! Lymphoma??? That's a pretty heavy diagnosis and I wouldn't take one doctors opinion on ANYTHING that has to do with that type of Diagnosis!!! Do yourself a favor, Go see someone else, but , don't tell him of the other doctors diagnosis and see what he says!!1

I am not sure if lymphoma is a possibility or not...not sure what to think?
About a couple months ago I had some swollen lymph nodes, some were painful, some were not. I was given anitbiotics and the painful ones went away, the painless ones did not. After checking myself recently I have found about 14 more lymph nodes..some hard others not but the majority are small. They are under my jaw, back of head, back of neck, next to my left breast, above my collar bone, in my groin area and behind my ear.
Now I am not sure about whether i should be concerned about these because they are in multiple areas throughout my body and painless..but they are somewhat small...what size are they typically if it is possibly lymphoma or is there not a 'typical' size...i am just so confused but scared to go to doc

I would contact your GP and let them know that the antibiotics worked for some, but not all. You probably just have an infection of some sort. Only your Dr can make that decision tho.
Hey Abe.... it depends on if it's Hodgkin's or Non Hodgkin's as to how scary and/or treatable it is.
Reply:hey, it is scary, but lymphoma (if you do have it) can be cured during the eary stages...so go and make that call now.
Reply:If you have reason enough to be concerned, you have reason enough to see a doctor.
P.S. Lymphoma is one of the "less" scary cancers. I should know, I'm a survivor.
Reply:I found one lymph node in my neck, it had been swollen, but over time it started to grow larger. I had several tests done, but the first one was a synogram, it was just like the ones you get when your preggie. It is harmless. They found the lymph node had a growth on it. Then, I went to Thoart, Nose Dr, who ordered some blood work, and a needle biopsy. It said I had cancer. Non-Hodkins Lymphoma. That was 4 years ago, I went thru treatments, and had the Lymph node removed immediatley. The treatments were not that bad, but I recommend that since you have so many large lymph nodes, go to a Eyes, Ears, and throat Dr. immediately. Because I did not wait, I am cancer free today. This is a treatable disease, I am proof of that.
Reply:I had a lump on my back the size of a golf ball. I could not feel it and did not know it was there. My wife got me to get it checked out. I went to my doctor and had blood work. The results was that my platelet level was to low. I was sent to an oncologist. I had a biopsy. It turned out that I had small cell, slow growth, non-follicular, Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma Stage 4. It took 6 months of chemo and 2 years of Rituxan (sort of a smart bomb for what is left of cancer), but after 7 years I am still here. I get blood work done every 6 months to be sure I'm cancer free. The really good news is that I was able to see my 2 grandchildren when they were born.
By the way, the first question I asked my oncologist was "Am I going to die?". She said, "Yes, but we all are from the day we are born. My job is to see that you can live a little longer." On the birth of both of my grandchildren I sent her 12 roses and went to see her and gave her the biggest hug I could.

Do I have Leukemia or Lymphoma?
Do I have Leukemia or Lymphoma?
I recently noticed a bunch of petechaie down by both ankles and by my toes and feet. this is the only play i have them, and they are quite small, smaller than the other pictures of petechaie. you need to look quite closely to see them, like your face must be 6 inches away and they ahvent been changing color, dissapearing, or spreading for 2 weeks. i had a blood test 1 week ago and everything was fine. they tested for a low white blood cell count. it came back as about 7500 which is normal. eveything else as far as i know was normal. im 14, and im afraid i might have one of these diseases (my friend has leakemia and he endured terrible suffereing before the cancer went into remision). please give me your opinion because i am told normal healthy people shouldnt have petechaie.
Do I have Leukemia or Lymphoma?
if you've taken the tests and they came back normal you don't have cancer.
A low platelet count (thrombocytopenia) is a common cause of petechiae. Platelets play an important role in blood clotting. Causes of a low platelet count include:
*Autoimmune disorders, such as lupus or rheumatoid arthritis
*Viral infections, such as mononucleosis and measles (rubella)
*Side effect of certain medications, such as chemotherapy drugs
*Bone marrow disorders, such as leukemia
Treatment of petechiae depends on the underlying cause. If you develop a petechial rash, see your doctor promptly.
you've seen your doc what does s/he say???
Reply:I don't think you have leukemia or lymphoma. Don't worry. They don't sound like petechiae at all. Especially that your CBC (including the platelet count) is normal. You better see a dermatologist (or a family doctor) to find out what it is.
Reply:my opinion is you do not have cancer. End of story.

What do you know about Lymphoma???
After reading about someone with Lymphoma, I wanted to learn more about it !
What do you know about Lymphoma???
there is non-hodgkins lymphoma and hodgkins lymphoma. NHL effects the lymphatic system (the system that controls the health of your immune system) the lymph cells grow and reproduce without stopping, it will take over the cells in the body and causes severe internal bleeding and causes infections
Reply:One of the things to do to keep the lymph system operating to it's full capacity is excercise. Excercise is important to maintaining good overall health. We tend to sit around and surf the internet or watch TV or play video games instead of playing ball, riding bikes, swimming, etc. the lymph system needs movement in order to stay healthy. Jumping on a trampoline either a big one or one of those little three foot jobs, is one of the best things to do to keep the lymph fluid flowing.
Reply:Well, Lymphoma is actually a general name for several classifications of Lymphatic cancer. Divided into 2 categories (Hodgkin's and Non-Hodgkin's) Lymphoma consists of about 30 different types of cancer.
NHL can show up pretty much anywhere in the body. Because Lymphoma is technically a cancer of the blood, it can spread to any major organ. Lymphoma is now the 5th most common cancer in the United States.
For the best information on Lymphoma, I suggest visiting www.lymphoma.com. There are a lot of really good links there to credible sites with accurate information.

I have had low grade lymphoma for about 4 years, question is how common is it to show up in your lungs?
I HAVE ONE NODULE, FOR SURE, MAYBE TWO BUT MY DOCTOR CAN'T SEE THE OTHER, IN MY RIGHT LUNG LOWER LEFT A LITTLE AWAY FROM THE LUNG WALL. I AM HOPING IT IS LYMPHOMA LOW GRADE, WHICH IS EASILY CONTROLED WITH RITUXAN. WHAT DO YOU THINK?
I have had low grade lymphoma for about 4 years, question is how common is it to show up in your lungs?
Any lung nodule is worth taking a look at. Lymphoma is usually in the lymph nodes, but is also found elsewhere, especially if you've had it this long it can go to your bone marrow, etc. I read hundreds of pathology reports every day, and I don't think i recall having seen it in the lung, but with your history it's possible. Also the lymphoma decreases your immune function making you more susceptible to other things like pneumonia, fungal infections, and the like. Granulomas are also pretty common, like a little clump of scar tissue.

Should I be concerned about lymphoma?
My eight year old son has chronic swollen lymph nodes on his neck, and sometimes else where. They are only tender sometimes, and are not accompanied by any other symptoms, i.e they are not caused by the presence of a virus or infection. The doctor believed at one time they were infected and treated him with antibiotics. He complains of them on occasion, like once every two months or so..should I be concerned that lymphoma may be a possibility?
Should I be concerned about lymphoma?
You should talk your concerns over with your pediatrician. There is something going on with your son, but no one is trying to get to the bottom of it. Often pediatricians will look at kids and they are acting healthy and running around. They can misdiagnose an illness. As a parent you need to be persistent and make them listen to your concerns.
I do not know if your son has lymphoma. He probably doesn't , but no one knows because it has not been investigated. I can only tell you from my own experience with my son's cancer. He had been given a 'well' physical in December, and by March he had full blown, stage IV abdominal sarcoma (multiple tumors throughout the body). One of the first places the doctors looked at when he was admitted into the hospital was his lympth glands. He had swollen lymth nodes (lumps) in neck, armpits, and groin area. They took a biopsy of the lump in his neck. The cancer in his nect was secondary, it was not lymphoma . . he had desmoplastic small round blue cell tumor, which is an aggressive abdominal sarcoma that predominately strikes boys and young adults. The cancer had grown and spred in less than three months.
Do not delay. Have your child examined and do not stop until you have a definitive answer. His life may depend on it.
Reply:yes
Reply:I'd be concerned over any thing that's persistent.
Reply:ya-seems to be lymphoma, plz go for further tests in good hospital
Reply:The lymph system is the primary drainage for all infection. Lymph nodes are located all over our bodies. You and I both know the many viruses young children get, even when we are not aware of them. This sounds to me like your child's lymph system is just doing it's job. If you are uneasy about this I would definitely go to his pediatrician and get an opinion, but I myself have always had swollen lymph glands as long as I can remember. It comes and goes, whether I have a cold or not. I would call your doctor just for peace of mind.
Reply:What other places? You should get a second opinion. My mother suffered from this... only she would get itchy all over her body. She had swollen lymph nodes on her neck and near her underarms. Doctors told her it was an allergic reaction and she went on for about 8 months (her main symptom was itchiness for some reason) until she practically scratched her blood out.
We finally admitted her to a nearby hospital and she was diagnosed with lymphoma. I'm not trying to scare you or anything... just make sure he gets a firm answer. If the problem persists, it may be that there is a probelm that should be solved.
My mother went so long withough knowing what was wrong with her.. by the time she was diagnosed, the cancer spread all over her body and she passed away about a year and a half afterwards.
I hope everything works out with you.
Good Luck and God Bless you and yout family =)
Reply:i would definitely go back to the doctor and maybe even see a different doctor. the lymph system works to drain out infections of the body so the occasional sweeling of a lymph node is to be exspected but with what you're describing i doubt it's just because of the system doing it's job. try keeping a log of all the times he is swollen and where and also anytimes he is complaining (how long and how bad). these details can really help your doctor diagnose this problem.
good luck.
Reply:Lymph nodes tend to be enlarged often in children without apparent cause. If they go down and come up elsewhere, tender at times, they are probably just reaction to some infection, possibly viral. Just keep an eye on them for now.
Reply:I would get him tested to ease your mind and rule that out so you feel better. Swollen nodes can be from many causes from allergies, to infection, to virus, etc. Where else are the nodes besides his neck? Arm pits? collarbone/clavicle? groin? those are the main lymph nodes in the body, the arm pit nodes are the axilla, the collarbone are the clavicle, groin are inguinals. Does he have any limbs or any localized swellings? does he run any fever? Any sinus drip? does he have any known allergies or do any allergies run in the family? What illness or diseases run in your family?
Reply:I think you are right to be concerned. You need better answers. It may be nothing, but you need to know for sure.

I started out with a simple lump in my thoat. Again, there are many other reasons a lymph node could swell Check the site to see if your son has any other symptoms.

Reply:Lymphoma typically does not cause pain in nodes and would most likely not 'bother' your son. Has he had night sweats? low grade fever, weight loss, severe itching. These are secondary lymphoma symptoms. I would get it checked out, but doubt it is lymphoma if they are tender at times. Also, has your family had incidence of childhood cancer. if not it would be unlikely it is lymphoma.
