I woke up yesterday, thursday, and on the left side of my neck, right below my earlobe and just behind where my jaw connects, was very sore. I woke up today, and it was still really sore. It is not really enlarged like swollen glands would be, but it does seem slightly inflamed. Could this be something serious (lymphoma, cancer, etc..) or are there tendons, muscles, or something maybe i strained in my sleep? I just had a physical 2 weeks ago, I seemed to check out fine, and my blood work came back pretty normal. I do have an enlarged, but painless gland or lymph node, near the same area thats been there for 10 years, and all doctors ive seen say its nothing, but i sweat heavily at night sometimes (night sweats?), but this has been the case for several years, and i have always sweated a lot. I am in otherwise good health, good appetite, 26 yrs old, 6'1" 190lbs, so nothing abnormal anywhere else. I recently quit smoking (2 months ago) and I had been smoking for 5 years.
Sore jaw/neck w inflamation, could this be something serios like cancer or lymphoma?
If your blood is normal, don't worry too much, but tell the doctor about your night sweats. If the doctors say this swelling is OK, then it is. Don't worry, I'm a major hypochondriac too, and this worry will eventually pass.
Reply:Get a 2nd opinion... night sweats are not normal. It is your health not your Dr's and they may mean well, but they are human and they make mistakes. Get a 2nd opinion. Good luck.
Reply:go see a docter...he will help you out...we wont....some1 may tell u its fine but what if its not?
Reply:I know you think you're being a hypochondriac, but please, do not ignore things because of it!!! I had a lump in my throat in the front near my voice box. I spend 6 months going from doctor to doctor. I had ultrasounds, xrays, and even a biopsy. All of them were normal. The doctors started asking me whether I wanted them to put me on tranquilizers!!! I was still convinced something was wrong. The lump ended up being thyroid papillary carcinoma. I'm 26 and healthy. I don't want to scare you, but maybe you should get a second opinion.
In all likelyhood, you are probably having a problem with TMJ. Grinding your teeth at night. However, you should have someone take a serious look at you anyway. Better safe than sorry! :)
